fruitmarket: contemporary art in edinburgh

The Fruitmarket Gallery is located in the heart of Edinburgh, next to Waverley Train Station. Once upon a time, the gallery was in fact a fruit and vegetable market. Now it is one the city’s most important contemporary art centres, exhibiting work by leading local and international artists. In the past, the Fruitmarket has showcased work by Jeff Koons, Louise Bourgeois, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Janet Cardiff. Their current exhibition Close-Up, “explores the defamiliarising effects of bringing a camera lens very close to its subject. Trans-historical and cross-generational, the exhibition brings together selected experiments in close-up film and photography.” Close-Up will run from October 24, 2008 to January 11, 2009.
